An appreciative audience gathered at The Packhorse, Leeds, to hear a night of all-original music played by a new 5-piece band and different combinations of its members.
Bradford-based singer-songwriter Ben Walker teamed up with 4 talented musicians from nearby Leeds to create a unique night of entertainment for performers and audience alike.
Keyboard player/singer/composer Kevin James kicked off the evening, performing some new, strong songs taken from his ever-expanding musical ‘Lone Flyers’.
Assisting him was vocalist Kate Peters, who then took over the keys to sing some of her own material, with some help from Loz Eccles on bass.
Loz continued under the guise of ‘Merciful Stranger’, singing his witty, melodic songs with additional vocals from Kevin and Kate.
After the break, Ben and drummer Roy Whyke entered the fray, supplementing Loz (bass and vocals), Kevin (keys and vocals) and Kate to form ‘The Acupuncturist’, a band which takes its name from a song on Ben’s CD ‘Kill or Cure’.
Tonight was the official launch of the CD. Roy, Kevin and Kate had all played on it, to great effect on the duet ‘Hold On To Your Hard Times’, and the arrival of Loz for the live show was just one more lucky break in the project’s history.
The 10-song set rolled along nicely, from the tongue-in-cheek opener ‘No One Likes Me’, through the stark ‘How Much is Enough’ and the rocking ‘Furious’ to end with some angelic singing in a quiet finale.
